Body Copy

The written word is a physical manifestation of the voice. It is a textual body which is subject to interpretation, manipulation, exploitation and temptation. In this workshop, which was part of the Sofia Design Week in Bulgaria, students explored the connection between the body and type in a very direct way. The participants designed fonts using their own bodies. Letters were created through all kinds of physical contact with the paper. Hair, nails, feet, bellies, arms and legs were used as tools, certainly no computers. This typographic orgy was appropriately held in a gallery above a sex shop which was kitted out completely with foil. Thanks to Magdalina Stancheva for the organisation.
